In combination with the Garden of the Gods Nature and Visitor Center, celebrate the Mother Earth and get back to your roots at Rock Ledge Ranch on this FREE ADMISSION day!
Did you know that Colorado Springs has been a “Tree City USA” for 40 consecutive years! It’s the longest-running in the state. General Palmer had 600 cottonwood trees planted when water was available from city reservoirs in 1872. In 1910 City Council created a Department of Forestry, a tree ordinance, and a city forester position. When many of the cottonwoods did not survive they were replaced with maple, ash, and elm trees.
Visit the historic homes for inside tours and a history lesson. Stop by the Blacksmith Shop to test his or her mettle, and pop in the General Store for a Ranch-made treat or some old-fashioned provisions! Bring along picnic and come have a great time while supporting the Ranch!
