Q: Who may I speak to regarding special donations? I would like to donate an artifact to the ranch. A: Please contact Mr. Ron Wright. He will gladly assist you with this.
Q: What happens to the money donated if you are not successful in keeping the ranch open? My grandchildren enjoy the ranch activities very much. Thanks. A: The Rock Ledge Ranch Living History Association has recently formed the LHA Foundation and will place all funds within this vehicle for use towards our Mission Statement. The LHA will manage these funds and they do not go into the community pot of the City of Colorado Springs. Your donation will be safeguarded and used specifically for ranch upkeep and historic preservation. We will not be dissolving as an Association. We are making strides and looking forward to 2010 but donations are still needed. |
Q: Your facility looks like great fun except I am afraid of certain roaming animals. Can you tell me if they are allowed to run free or contained in a specific location. A: Some animals are contained, such as the horses and cows. Others are allowed to roam from one time to another, such as the sheep and chickens. This is to keep in lieu of the period times that the ranch represents. The sheep keep by themselves near the barn as do the chickens. There are many other areas of the ranch that can be visited without getting near the free roaming animals, such as the Historic Orchard House, the Blacksmith area, the Carriage House with Museum artifacts, the Indian grounds, the Heritage shop and the Galloway Homestead Cabin. There are also many foot trails over the 230 acres to explore. |

Q: What are the prerequisites to becoming a Junior Docent? A:Junior Docents must be at least 10 years old and have completed 4th grade. They need to fill out applications at www.springsgov.com and come to an interview. They must be able to attend all mandatory training sessions and be willing to commit to volunteering 2 times per week for 5 weeks during the summer plus work at least 2 special events.
Q: What type of people enjoy being docents? Is it right for me? A: If you love history and enjoy living it out, have a desire to learn new things and don't mind working hard you'll fit right in with our talented group!

Q: Are wedding ceremonies or receptions allowed on the ranch grounds?
A: Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site can hold weddings in the months of January through May and October through December at the American Mothers Chapel (located at the south east corner of the Ranch). It is a small chapel that seats 9 to 12 people comfortably. If you are interested in reserving the Chapel you can call the main Parks, Recreations and Cultural Services number at 719-385-6504.
